New: Anodic Electrodeposition Coating with a Metallic Look

Freilacke has continuing success with the anodic electrodeposition coating development which allows conductive substrates to be coated in a metallic appearance. This is a single coat application allowing a method to provide a controlled and consistent film thickness in an automated mass production environment. This process could provide an economical alternative to high volume coating operations.

In addition to the well-known advantages of electrodeposition coating, such as environmental friendliness, maximum material transfer efficiency, critical film thickness control in combination with high levels of automation - it is now  possible to coat electrically conductive substrates with a one coat anodic Ecoat coating in a range of metallic effects.

This process can be used wherever a decorative metallic coating is required on conductive substrates. For example storage and shelf systems, office furniture, domestic appliances, and numerous other applications. This process has been developed by FreiLacke, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of electrodeposition coatings.

High System Stability

The use of high-grade acrylic resins ensures that the new coating achieves a high quality finish in regards to the visual appearance, chemical and mechanical resistance. The processing of the metallic pigments has been optimised to ensure their compatibility and an high tank stability with other components of the system.

Development

During the laboratory development phase, special attention was paid to ensure tank stability and film consistency during deposition. Bath filtration is performed using selected filter elements that allow the platelet-shaped metallic pigments to easily transfer. The Ultrafiltation process was also developed to provide a constant permeate performance. Special attention was also paid to the metallic pigment allignment in conjunction with applied DC voltage and anode/ cathode configiration.
